Interior Crank or Tape Operation

1. Install mounting brackets onto a solid surface high enough over the window (at least 2”) so the hembar will clear the top of the window and is not visible from inside, install one bracket approximately 6” in from end of box with the remainder evenly spaced across the surface where the box will be mounted.  Mark and drill bracket holes with a 5/32” drill bit, depending on size of screws used.  Then mount brackets with lag screws and tighten with a socket.

2. Take front off box then put the box centered on the brackets.  If unit is an interior crank run crankshaft through the crank and make a mark on the wall for drilling.  Remove box and drill a ½” hole through the wall, at the same angle as the crankshaft.  Then replace box center it and tighten with T-bolts and nuts.  From the inside run crankshaft through the wall and into the crank.  Make a mark on the crankshaft of any extra shaft sticking out of the crank, pull it out and cut it off.  Reinstall crank and attach to the wall.

3. If the unit is tape operated first center the box tighten.  Drill your ½” hole directly behind where tape comes out.  Make certain the hole is clean and free of all sharp objects.  This should be through a stud if at all possible.  Run the tape through the wall, making sure the tape has no twist in it.  On the inside run the tape through the white plastic washer with the arrow facing up and the flat side facing out.  Run the tape through the tape lock.  Fasten the tape lock to the wall, and then lower the screen all the way down.  Now cut off the pull tape at a comfortable level for the customer to reach, slip on the tassel and tie a knot to secure.  Raise the screen approximately 6” up.

4. Slide the tracks (if provided) onto the hembar guide pieces, then attach the tracks to the box.  HINT:  Slide track at an angle onto the box projection and then twist the track into position.

5. Lower the screen all the way to the maximum drop desired and ensure that the tracks are both as vertical as possible.  If unit is motorized, set bottom limit now.  Then raise the hembar about 8” or more and position the track brackets approxi-mately 4” up from the bottom of each track with the small set screws on the brackets toward the outsides.  Mark their location and attach to wall. Install the track brackets and snap the tracks on.  Lock the tracks down with the small screws on the track bracket facing outwards.  *NOTE: longer tracks require additional brackets which should be evenly spaced.  The hembar should have play in it to be able to move left and right slightly and not bind up.

6. Run the screen all the way up until the hembar is approximately ¼” below the box.  If motorized, set your upper limit now.  Then run the system up and down to make sure the fabric is not “walking” toward one end of roller tube and the unit runs smoothly with no binding.  If the fabric is “walking”,  place a 1”- 2” piece of duct tape on the end of the roller tube from which the fabric “walks” and test again.  Repeat with additional layers as necessary until the walking is minimized.

7. Fit the front of box into slot on the top of the rear section and insert screw into each end cap.  Now you’re done.

If the unit is a Stand-Off Screen, attach one part of each 2-piece bracket to the wall and the other to the track.  Then, attach the two parts of the brackets.
